Rules & Regulations

AGE LIMIT

All players must be 18 years of age or older to attend or participate in our club. Due to space restrictions and safety, please arrange for alternative childcare.

Teams

Teams should have no less than 7 and no more than 10 players to avoid being short or overcrowded. Games are still played, regardless of how many show up.

Food & Drink

No food or drink on the courts at any time, please keep water on the bench or stage. Please clean up any spills or messes left behind from food or drink.

Footwear

Please leave outdoor shoes at the entrance. No outdoor shoes are allowed on the gym floor at any time. Please bring the appropriate footwear to play.

Cleanup

Please ensure that everything is put back where it belongs after all games and that no mess or garbage is left behind.

Smoking & Drinking

No smoking, vaping or drinking is allowed on school property at any time. Players cannot be under the influence while playing.

Arrival & Departure

7:00 players are asked to arrive 10 minutes ahead of time to set up, and 8:00 players are asked to take down before they leave.

Illness

Players are asked to stay home if they are sick and contagious. If in doubt, please consult the school screening form here.

Playing Format

Captains, please fill out online score sheets promptly after each set.

3 sets are played to 25, with a cap of 28. The 3rd set may be shortened to 15 with a cap of 17 if running short on time.

Rally for first serve of first set. The team that lost the previous set serves first sets 2 and 3.  

Rotation occurs after 5 consecutive successful serves. 

Playing Actions

For a full overview of playing actions including faults, please check the FIVB Official Volleyball Rules Handbook, Chapter 4 (pages 27-35)

Men may not spike in front of the attack line (for clarification, men must be behind the attack line when hitting). Spiking is considered hitting the ball forcefully downward.

Players are not permitted to forcefully kick the ball.

Jump serves are not permitted.

Players on the opposite team may not reach over the net when the opponent is approaching the ball.
